Migration process

How we migrate your site

A structured, proven process built to avoid downtime, data loss, and post-migration surprises.

1

Audit your current setup

We assess your existing WordPress installation — themes, plugins, custom code, database size, and any third-party integrations — to identify anything that needs special handling during migration.

2

Full backup before we touch anything

A complete backup of all files and the database is created and stored securely before any migration work begins. Nothing moves until we have a verified restore point.

3

Migration plan and timeline

We develop a detailed migration plan with a clear timeline, flagging potential challenges up front. You know exactly what's happening and when before we start.

4

Staging environment setup

A new environment is provisioned on Convesio's container infrastructure, configured to match your site's PHP version, database settings, and performance requirements.

5

Migration execution

Files, database, and all configurations are transferred to the new platform. Your original site remains live and unchanged throughout this entire stage.

6

Testing, validation and DNS cutover

We thoroughly test every page, plugin, and form on the new environment before DNS is touched. Only when everything passes do we coordinate the cutover — typically under 5 minutes of TTL propagation.

After go-live

What happens after migration

The migration doesn't end at DNS cutover. We stay involved until everything is confirmed stable.

Performance baseline check

We run a post-migration performance check — GTmetrix, Core Web Vitals, TTFB — and compare against your previous host to confirm improvement.

7-day rollback window

Your original hosting environment stays live and accessible for 7 days after cutover. If anything unexpected surfaces, we can roll back immediately.

SSL and redirect verification

All SSL certificates are confirmed active, HTTPS redirects are tested, and any www/non-www redirect chains are verified to prevent SEO impact.

Dedicated support post-launch

Our team remains available for any issues that surface in the first 7 days. Emails, forms, cron jobs, third-party APIs — we help troubleshoot anything migration-related.

Caching and CDN activation

Once DNS has fully propagated, we activate page caching, object caching, and Cloudflare CDN integration to ensure your site is running at peak performance from day one.

Security hardening

Post-migration, we verify WAF rules are active, malware scanning is running, and brute force protection is configured on the new environment.

Common questions

Migration FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most before a migration starts.

No. Your site remains live on the original host throughout the entire migration process. We build and test the new environment in parallel. DNS is only cut over once everything has been validated — and even then, DNS propagation takes minutes, not hours, because we pre-lower the TTL beforehand.
We migrate from any host — Cloudways, WP Engine, Kinsta, SiteGround, Bluehost, GoDaddy, cPanel-based hosts, DigitalOcean, Linode, AWS, and self-managed VPS environments. If WordPress runs on it, we can migrate it.
Most WordPress site migrations complete within 24–48 hours from start to DNS cutover. Larger sites with complex databases or many custom integrations may take 3–5 days. We give you a firm timeline before we start.
We keep your original environment live for 7 days after cutover. If anything migration-related surfaces — a broken form, a misconfigured plugin, a cron job — our team investigates and fixes it. If needed, we can roll back to the original environment immediately.
Migration is included for all new hosting plans. There is no separate migration fee — you pay for hosting, and we handle the move as part of onboarding. Get in touch and we'll confirm what's included for your specific setup.
